When we reflect on the disciples with their varied backgrounds, levels of education and points of view, it is a wonder that they created a movement that was singularly focused on spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. To anyone, unaware of the power of the Holy Spirit, it would seem impossible, but when we review 1 John 3:1-3, we better understand Jesus’ strategy for taking a seemingly ragtag group of men and bringing them together: Because of Jesus’ great love for us, we are God’s children.
The love of Christ is the common thread through the diverse experiences of the disciples, and similarly, the love of Christ also binds each one of us, in the Gulf States Conference, together. As we move forward in this year, I know that it is God’s love that will bring us together and keep us focused on our mission of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, wherever we go.
