The Gulf States Conference (GSC) Youth Department launched the year with an inspiring and adventurous Caving Teen Invitational at Tumbling Rock Cave, Alabama. Led by Bob Hill, a veteran caving guide with 39 years of experience, along with his son, grandson, and a team of young adult mentors, the event welcomed over 50 teens from churches across the territory. The weekend combined physical challenge with spiritual growth, creating a transformative experience for all involved.
Participants arrived Friday evening at Big Cove Christian Academy, near Huntsville, where volunteers and staff prepared for the Sabbath journey. On Sabbath morning, pastor Marcelo Mansur, GSC Young Adults Director, shared an inspirational message, reminding teens that with Jesus as their guide and the right spiritual "equipment" from Ephesians 6 and Psalms 119:105, they can conquer any challenge. Michael Ruiz, from Floral Crest, Alabama, shares that he "loves adventures and exploring on Saturdays," which made him excited for the experience. In addition to him, Morelia Lopez from Birmingham, Alabama, said she was focused on connecting with God. "I'm excited and scared, but my goal is to connect with the Creator of nature."
The teens, supported by Bob Hill’s expert leadership and safety-focused briefings, explored the intricate paths of Tumbling Rock Cave. With his experience, Bob Hill said that "it will be a fun adventure for the teens" and in reality in 2h you can make it, but with group of 50 you go slow inside the cave that make it 3 entering and 3 exiting the cave. The adventure tested their resilience and teamwork while inspiring them spiritually. Many left the cave physically challenged but spiritually renewed, reflecting the holistic approach to youth ministry championed by the GSC.
GSC Youth Deparment Director, Pastor Michel Rodriguez and Assistant Director Elizabeth Rodriguez, invite all teens to upcoming Invitationals, including backpacking, rock climbing, and canoeing. For more information, visit gscsda.org/youth.
