RISE Pastors’ Conference 2024: A Transformative Gathering for Spiritual and Professional Growth

Published on October 3, 2024

The Southern Union hosted its RISE Pastors’ Conference in Orlando, FL, from September 29 to October 2, 2024. Held every five years, this event brought together pastors and their families across the Southern Union, providing an opportunity for spiritual renewal, professional development, and fellowship.

Keynote speakers, including Alduan Tartt, Ryan Burge, Steven Argue, Ty Gibson, and Heather Thompson Day, delivered impactful presentations on strengthening marriages, engaging with church members, self-care, and balancing personal and professional lives. Pastors attended various seminars designed to address the challenges of modern ministry. Practical sessions covered financial management, retirement planning, and the importance of balancing family time with ministry duties.

One of the conference highlights was the Tech Lab, which showcased the latest tools for applying technology to ministry. Pastors had hands-on opportunities to explore equipment, while experts like Bryant Taylor, Southern Union Communication Director, offered guidance on how to enhance ministry using digital innovation. In addition, the Master Classes provided more in-depth sessions on using technology to further church work.

A special focus was also placed on the well-being of pastoral families. Ministerial spouses participated in meetings offering insights and fellowship, and children had their age-specific programs filled with faith-based activities, games, and lessons. “Our goal was to make this conference not just about the pastors but their entire families,” said Elder Josh Murillo, VP of Ministerial for the Gulf States Conference.

For many pastors, the highlight of the conference was the balance of relaxation and ministry focus. A 5K Family Fun Run allowed participants to enjoy fellowship and physical activity, with prizes for the top male and female finishers. “The race was a great way to combine ministry with health,” said event organizer Rick Greve. Other recreational activities included a movie night, game night, and “Puppies and Ice Cream,” a crowd favorite where attendees could play with puppies from a local shelter.

The conference concluded with a banquet that honored four pastors for their dedication to ministry. Pastor Rammy Robles received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding work in evangelism. The evening ended on a lighthearted note with entertainment from "The Skit Guys."

Elder Brian Danese, Gulf States Conference president, reflected on the impact of the event, saying, “The RISE conference has refreshed our pastors, equipping them with both spiritual strength and practical tools to enhance their ministries.”

Pastor Eddie Nunez of Panama City SDA Church added, “This experience has been transformative. I’m leaving here not just encouraged but equipped with new insights to serve my congregation better.”

The RISE Pastors’ Conference was a reminder of the importance of equipping pastors for the challenges of modern ministry while giving them time to recharge and reconnect with their families. As the pastors return to their churches, they do so with renewed motivation and a stronger sense of purpose.
