Some YAM ministries you can get involved in:

The Young Adult Ministries Department of the Gulf States Conference presents 2 retreats per year for collegiate age youth: one in the spring, and one in the fall. These retreats are geared to ages 18-35. Whether you’re single, married, or have small children, we want all young adults to feel welcome! The purpose of these retreats is to bring together young adults from around the Conference to exchange ideas for outreach and young adult programming, and to encourage each other. The laid back atmosphere is designed to be a respite from life’s busyness and to encourage spiritual renewal.

Summer Camp

Camp Alamisco is inviting young adults between the ages of 18-35 to summer camp! Young adults will be able to enjoy horseback riding, paintball, canoeing, swimming, boating and more! With quality staff and activities, it’s sure to be a time of fun and adventure. Be spiritually revived by our special guest speaker. Grow closer to God through worship in the beautiful Outdoor Chapel. Relish in beautiful lake views and exciting boat excursions.

Since our denomination’s inception, our church pioneers realized the importance of youth ministry. Over the years, the organization of Youth Societies, Missionary Volunteers, summer camps, Pathfinders, Adventurers, and youth publications impacted young people for Jesus across the globe. But why does it seem in recent years that young adults have been left in the dust? What ministries are available to 18-35 year olds? The ones just out of high school, freshmen in college. The ones between jobs, or beginning a new career. The married ones, the single ones. The new parents, and the young families. The ones who just bought their first house, and the ones searching for their first apartment. What is there for them?

That’s where Young Adult Ministries (YAM) comes in. The Gulf States Conference (GSC) has been ministering to youth through Pathfinders, Camp Alamisco, and youth rallies for many years. Now, with the exciting new addition of YAM, the opportunities for ministering to young people has doubled! This brand-new ministry of the GSC began at the start of 2016 with a retreat at Camp Alamisco. The retreat’s purpose was to bring together young adults for a sort of brainstorming session, to share ideas of what programming could be offered and to learn the spiritual needs of young adults. Pastor Todd Casey’s vision for this ministry is that it will grow at the local church level, connecting young adults with a church community right where they are. He hopes that YAM will create an environment for young adults to develop an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ. And lastly, to provide resources to young adults for outreach to others their age, as well as resources valuable for life skills.

With this vision and direction in mind, a Young Adult Council was organized to target the immediate needs of young adults and to provide programming through YAM. The YA Council is comprised of young adults from around the GSC for a well-rounded representation of young adults in modern society. Though the structure of the council has morphed and changed since it was established, its goal remains the same: to connect, inspire and grow young adults into a deeper and richer relationship with Jesus.

Connect, inspire, grow. This has been the aim of YAM since it began. And in every aspect of the ministry, it strives to promote a relational connection between young adults to bring encouragement in their faith; inspiration to become a part of a ministry that is ever changing to meet the spiritual needs of young adults; and growth in the rich soil of the word of God to strengthen and nurture a love for Jesus like never before.

The bible says, “Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor Him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.” (Ecclesiastes 12:1, NLT) The time for this ministry is now. Won’t you join us in praying for and supporting this ministry to young people? You too can be a part of YAM.
